Artist's Description
The Sentinel tree is one of the artist's favorite subjects is a tradition brought over from European pioneers of Canada; the lone tree was allowed to grow to become the Sentinel Tree, to stand guard over the land. Tim Heimdal is a descendant of pioneers who settled in La Glace, Alberta. This painting was donated for auction as a fund raiser to the Center for the Creative Arts, Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada.
About Tim Heimdal
Tim Heimdal stands by his 72 foot mural of Kakwa Falls, in the first image of this gallery. The mural is about the same height as the waterfall itself. "Kakwa Falls" was painted on the Telus building in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada in 1986. Tim designed the sets and murals for major events such as the 1995 Canada Games and the 2010 Arctic Winter Games. Grande Prairie Art Gallery commissioned Tim Heimdal to paint the legacy mural "Spirit of the Arctic Winter Games", now featured in The Canadian Encyclopedia. Tim won the Louise McKinney Scholarship, twice, at Alberta College of Art and Design, where he studied painting.
